Before asking a GCC distributor for a first conversation, prepare a short commercial brief that lets them decide whether the opportunity is worth exploring. A distributor does not need a long presentation at this stage. They need enough clarity to understand the product, the market fit and what you want them to assess.
Start with a one-page summary: what the product is, who it is for, which GCC market you want to discuss first, and the outcome you are seeking. Be specific about whether you are looking for market feedback, a route-to-market discussion, a pilot, or a full distribution relationship. Avoid sending a catalogue without context; it shifts the work of understanding your offer to the other side.
First-conversation checklist
Prepare these points before outreach:
- A clear product description, including the customer problem it solves.
- The intended customer segment and the market you want to prioritise.
- Current evidence of demand, if any, stated plainly rather than as a forecast.
- Your expected role: supply only, joint launch support, or a phased market-entry discussion.
- Practical constraints, such as lead times, product adaptation needs or documentation still to be confirmed.
- Two or three questions you genuinely want the distributor to answer.
Hypothetical example: A Turkish manufacturer of retail fixtures approaches a Bahrain-based distributor. Instead of leading with every product line, the manufacturer asks whether its modular display units suit the distributor’s current retail and hospitality clients, which specifications may need adapting, and who should join a follow-up technical call. This gives both sides a defined reason to speak.
A useful first meeting is not a commitment. It is a chance to test fit, clarify responsibilities and decide whether a next step is justified. For a wider view of route-to-market realities, read MEDL’s guide to how distribution works in Saudi Arabia.
Next step: Turn your current materials into a one-page distributor brief before requesting introductions. If you would value relevant information and connections for a live business priority, you can request MEDL membership.
